TRISH ANDERSEN
Textile artist. U.S.A.
Trish Andersen is an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Dalton, Georgia, “The Carpet Capital of the World.” Her initial attraction to the process of tufting was a means of reconnecting to and exploring her roots. Years after attending the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and moving on to live and work in Brooklyn, New York, Trish began using tufting as a means of examining the notion that a thing or way of being can run in our blood; that perhaps by observing the characteristics of personal origin and establishing commonality and community around those that reverberate in the present, one may be able to begin unearthing the elusive authentic self.

CHRISTINE ALCALAY
Fashion designer. U.S.A.
Christine Alcalay is a New York City-based fashion designer and business owner. Her love affair with fashion began as a child in Vietnam, where she “ate, slept, and lived” amongst heaps of clothing as her mother worked as a seamstress. Now, through her own eponymous brand, she makes clothes for “the woman who has a story to tell,” seeing fashion as something transformative through which we might become whoever we want, or more radically, be who we already are.

FIONA CRIBBEN
Artist. Ireland.
Fiona Cribben was an Irish artist with metastatic breast cancer who created art, for the living and for the dead. For the last few years of her life, Fiona wrote a journal as a form of meditation and therapy to help her cope with her diagnosis and pain. When Fiona died in November 2019, her close friend Leonie Henson gathered Fiona’s words together with her artistic works, her poetry and her positive outlook on life. Leonie designed, created and published them as a beautiful book, LOVE LIFE—a guide to cherishing every moment in life, to honor her friend and share her story. Fiona was an explorer, a weaver of life. Her journey started outward to far-off places, through a journey of creative expression, and finally to the most important and challenging journey, inward to the soul. In Issue 1 of FAIRE, we are honoured to share excerpts from LOVE LIFE, in Fiona’s own words as a celebration of her life and work.
