Dorothée Catry, France
French costume designer, natural dyer, and milliner Dorothée Catry has trained in many heritage craft techniques, including millinery, floral trimming, and natural dyeing. Today she is a trusted guardian to a special savoir-faire of silk flower making. Inside her wonderful atelier in the heart of Brussels, she creates her own unique naturally dyed fabrics, which she then transforms into petals and forms into flowers with her treasure trove of ancient tools bequeathed by the Belgian milliner Mireille van den Borne.

Deborah Brearley, Australia
Australian multidisciplinary artist, author, gardener and creative mentor Deborah Brearley believes that we can all nurture our creative spark through creative process, be it drawing, painting, gardening or the manual arts. She is committed to a lifestyle of making do, living simply and working with and close to nature. Deborah invites us to discover her work and the charming historical ‘make do’ cottage she purchased a little over a year ago, which she is in the process of restoring, combining all her loves and interests: land restoration, historical preservation, social history and gardening.

Kim Chin, U.K
Multifaceted textile artist and cultural caretaker Kim Chin was born in the creative capital of London with roots in Filipina, Chinese and Jamaican heritage. This cultural fusion subconsciously influenced Kim’s warmth for pattern, colour, perception and sharing stories. Kim has had an accomplished career within the fashion and textiles industry, relocating to cities in both Europe and North America. She returned to her home base of London in 2020 to nurture print-based skills and expanded into ethical products that aim to bring people together in a joyful, inquisitive way.

Claire Rosen, U.S.A.
Claire Rosen is an award-winning artist and the author of Imaginarium: The Process behind the Pictures, written as a way to encourage artists to develop a sustainable and fulfilling art practice by seeing their daily lives as nourishment for their art. Claire is currently restoring the historic Warwick Furnace Farm with her family in rural northern Chester County, Pennsylvania. The family-run lavender farm’s stone buildings and barns date back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. For Claire, it is also a space that nourishes her artistic practice and serves as a wonderland for creativity and inspirational collaboration with other artists.

Gabrielle Karnycheff, France
After many years travelling the world, French designer Gabrielle Karnycheff recently returned to the ‘source’, her family home in the countryside of the Luberon region of Provence, France. Just before the pandemic hit, Gabrielle presented a luxury leather collection in Paris that she called ‘Super 8’, inspired by the shapes of camera bags from the 1970s and the colours of that period. Gabrielle first fell in love with leather when she lived in the Camargue region of Southern France, which led to her training in saddlery and leatherwork at the celebrated Parisian school Grégoire Ferrandi. Today Gabrielle creates a variety of bespoke, made-to-measure luxury leather objects using traditional hand-sewing and hand-cutting techniques. Her collection includes toque hats, slippers, handbags and cardholders as well as decorative items such as vases and furniture.

Jessica Ozlo, Spain
Spanish artist Jessica Ozlo started working with textiles during her first degree in fashion design in Barcelona, where she was born. After finishing her degree she moved to London, where she completed her MA in costume design, following her artistic drive and love for textiles. After settling in the English countryside, Jessica returned to art as a need to express and find her own voice, exploring traditional crafts as a way of slowing down the creative process and reconnecting with handmade and female heritage skills

Charlotte Bourrus, France
French collage artist Charlotte Bourrus founded her creative company, The Map, in 2013, inspired by her fascination with travel, maps and the notion of territory. In her Biarritz atelier in Southern France, Charlotte and her team work meticulously to collect symbolic or representative elements from postcards, rare books, vintage paper and textiles. These found ephemera are delicately transformed into surrealist, imaginative conversations under glass bell jars that transport us beyond the imposed boundaries of cartography.

Vincent Jeannerot, France
For more than 35 years, French watercolour painter Vincent Jeannerot has transmitted sensitivity and emotion through his botanical illustrations. Fascinated from a young age by the explorers who brought back botanical plates representing unknown plants from their journey, Vincent describes his work as privileging life and focusing on capturing life and light in a personal, unique art of observation. Vincent is a much-loved and celebrated teacher and hosts classes in his beautiful studio in ‘Vieille Lyon’, France and travels the world to host workshops, transmitting his knowledge and skills for the next generation of botanical artists.

Eppie Thompson, U.K
A month before the covid pandemic closed the world down, Eppie Thompson quit her finance job in London City with the idea to launch the Fabled Thread, an embroidery company for a new generation of crafters. Starting a business in the middle of lockdown would be daunting for even the bravest entrepreneurs, but serendipitously, Eppie found an audience hungry for distraction and eager to learn new craft skills. We met up with Eppie in her colourful, eclectic London East End flat where the Fabled Thread was born.

Cecille Weldon, Australia
Cecille Weldon is an artist, printmaker, textile, furniture designer and systems thinker who lives in Clareville, Australia in a home surrounded by gum trees and native palms, the wild Pacific Ocean and the big Australian sky. Cecille describes the rhythm of making and creating as being like a heartbeat – a constant companion through life, fuelled by her curiosity, wonder and a hunger to connect and know more.

Ruth Steadman is a writer and storyteller. She authors the column for ‘Stories of Salt and Starlight’ for Faire Magazine. Ruth has also been published in Oh Magazine, while her poetry can be found in the anthology Poems For The NHS, and Popshot Magazine, as well as in a variety of poetry journals. She is currently working on her first non-fiction book, and building a performance storytelling practice.

Born to two artists, native Venetian Zaira Zarotti is a fine art photographer, visual storyteller, writer and ceramicist living and working in the Venetian countryside. Inspired by strong connections to her cultural heritage and her family’s artistic history, she creates photographic tableaux that she shares through her blog and Instagram, both titled ‘The Freaky Table’. Zaira shares her life and studio with her partner Francesco, with whom she also co-created The Freaky Raku ceramics studio.
